Another rainy day spent shuttered away. The entire day wasted waiting to sign for a delivery that arrived after delivering hours. It’s amazing how one thing can throw your entire day out of balance, leaving you in a foul mood. So, what do to? Well, after wallowing in disgust for a while (a long while), I needed something to help me change my point of view.
It’s been an upside-down day, so I thought about the Upside-Down Man from my childhood. I know very few people who don’t smile when they read a Shel Silverstein’s poem. Below are two of his works reflecting (pun intended) on the importance of changing your perspective.
Reflection by Shel Silverstein
Each time I see the Upside-Down Man
Standing in the water,
I look at him and start to laugh,
Although I shouldn’t oughtter.
For maybe in another world
Another time
Another town,
Maybe HE is right side up
And I am upside down.
A Boy Named Sue by Shel Silverstein
Sorry, I added a link to the poem because it’s too long to post in its entirety. But, as a bonus, here’s Johnny Cash covering it live.
